Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.(1 Kings 15:5)
There are some that will say we cannot obey Gods commandments. And they will use David as an example and bring up his adultery and murder. But as seen clearly in 1 Kings 15:5 after David repented. He obeyed God perfectly and did not turn away from anything the Lord commanded.
But many will ignore this and say “Its not possible to obey Gods commands, God gets glory out of our inability, we don’t need to obey as Jesus obeyed perfectly for us and all God sees is Jesus’ obedience”
I want to tell you this is extremely false. God does not get glory out of us living like the devil. God gets glory out of us being obedient, We live to glorify Christ by obeying him. Paul says we are called by the apostolic gospel “for the obedience of faith” (Rom. 1:5).
More examples of perfect obedience.
Blessed are the UNDEFILED in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no INIQUITY: they walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts dilligently.(Psalm 119:1-4)
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.(Psalm 119:9-11)
As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:(1 Peter 1:14)
Also read Romans chapter 6.
We can see clearly here from those passages and Romans 6. That we can obey God and his commands. John gives a clear warning here. That if we do not obey Gods commandments we
are liars.
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he(Jesus) walked.(1 John 2:3-6).
This is clear.
Those who say they know God.
1- Obey God.
2- Those that do not obey God are liars and do not have the truth.
3- Those who say they abide in Christ should walk as Christ walked.
And how did Christ walk? In obedience to the Father and always doing the Fathers will.
So the point is.
Don’t fall for the popular theology that you cannot obey God. Or that if you are disobedient God sees you as obedient because of Jesus. This is not true as John clearly teaches.
“He that doeth righteous is righteous” and “He who commits sin is of the Devil” So, if you are disobeying God and sinning, God will not view you as righteous.
Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to those who obey him and the holy spirit is given to those who obey.
